Sequel 2.9: Describe or Scan It

Release

Minimum OS

iOS 18.4, macOS 15.4, visionOS 26.0

Sequel 2.9 is all about new ways to find the media you love and get it into your library: describe what you’re after in your own words, or point your camera at a shelf and let Sequel identify the titles on it.

Search in Your Own Words

Until now, finding a title meant knowing its name. Describe what you’re looking for instead and Sequel finds it in its catalogue and your library, combining criteria like genre, cast, release dates or your own ratings.

  • “Movies with Ben Stiller and Adam Scott”

  • “Comedy series from the 90s”

  • “Strategy games on PS5”

  • “Books by Brandon Sanderson”

  • “Upcoming horror movies”

Sequel understands genres, actors, directors, composers, authors, topics, release dates, game platforms, library status and your ratings.

It works inside the app, and from Siri without opening Sequel first.

Natural Language Search relies on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, now available for developers to use, so your requests are processed without being stored or made accessible to Apple. Requires Apple Intelligence on iOS 27, macOS 27, and visionOS 27.

Smart Scanner

Point your camera at a book cover, a movie poster, a DVD case or a game box and Sequel finds the matching item. It works inside the app, and from Visual Intelligence without opening Sequel at all.

Fill the frame with a whole shelf instead and Sequel reads every spine it can, then hands you the list so you choose what to add. A physical collection goes in without typing a single title.

Like Natural Language Search, Smart Scanner relies on Private Cloud Compute. Requires Apple Intelligence on iOS 27.

New Widgets

Collection and In Progress join the widget line-up, so you can keep a specific collection or whatever you’re partway through on your Home Screen.

  • Upcoming and Out Now can now be limited to the media types you care about, from movies and games to season premieres or every episode.

  • On iOS 27, Watch Next marks an episode watched straight from the Home Screen at larger sizes.

  • Widgets throughout gain more sizes and options, including the new extra large size on iOS 27, which fills a full Home Screen page.

Finishing Touches

Local search results now tolerate typos, so a mistyped title still finds what you meant, and those results can be added straight to a collection.
